Using her business acumen and strong leadership, Karen provides sound strategic advice to help guide significant projects and initiatives.
In her role on Vancity’s senior leadership group, Karen works collaboratively to implement the strategic direction for the Vancity Group. As Corporate Secretary she delivers sound advice and establishes practices and systems that make good governance a hallmark of Vancity.
Karen has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ottawa. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1987, she worked in private practice, then joined Royal Trust for a period of 12 years and finally Vancity in 2001. She has received numerous award and recognition throughout her career including the Royal Bank “Award of Excellence” in 1996 and 1997 and was a finalist for the Association of Women in Finance’s “Performance and Excellence” award in 2006. She has her directors’ designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
In 2007, Vancity recognized Karen’s business acumen, leadership skills and exceptional contribution by appointing her interim Chief Executive Officer. Karen has held a number of director appointments including the Ethical Fund Company, Credential Financial Inc., The Social Investment Organization, YWCA Metro Vancouver, and the Vancouver Public Library.
