Salcito Charitable Fund

The Salcito Charitable Fund was created by Sophie and Tony Salcito to promote education and learning. Sophie and Tony wanted to provide a structure for their charitable giving that could exist in perpetuity. As their daughter, Sienna, is now 9 years old they wanted a way to teach her about the idea of giving and for her to be able to help decide on grant recipients in the future. Sophie and Tony liked the idea that their charitable fund will be a long term family project!

Sophie has worked for Vancity Credit Union since 1998, and currently works as an Investment Advisor. She has become increasingly familiar with donor-advised funds as charitable giving and estate planning are common topics of conversation with many of her clients. Sophie believes the opportunity to create donor-advised funds through the Vancity Community Foundation is a wonderful service and opportunity for Vancity members, and feels more compelled than ever to talk about their benefits with clients in order to create more awareness.

Education and learning is the focus for the Salcito Charitable Fund which is in line with the type of work they do and something they support strongly.

Some past recipients of the Fund include:

  • WestCoast Book Prize Society
  • Larson Elementary School
  • Lonsdale Creek Daycare Society
