Let’s make a greater impact by giving together
We are excited to invite you to participate in Learn together, Give together.
Inspired by the giving circle model, Learn together, Give together is a pilot initiative of Vancity Community Foundation that aims to bring donors together to give collectively while learning about a specific community concern and the organizations working to address it.
Through this initiative you’ll meet other donors, learn about a pressing community concern, and hear about several grassroots initiatives. Learning together is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of an issue area facing our community while learning about the people and projects making a difference. Giving together is an opportunity to leverage your granting to make a significant difference for one organization because the size of the grant will be much larger than giving independently.
OUR GIVING WILL BE FOCUSED ON THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY
In January 2019, Vancity Community Foundation relocated to our new offices at 312 Main, on the corner of Main/Cordova, in the heart of the Downtown Eastside. A project of Vancity Community Foundation, 312 Main is home to a dynamic community of entrepreneurs, artists and organizations committed to economic and social innovation, empowering one another and the neighbourhood they are part of to thrive. Learn together, Give together will connect our donors with each other and to this network while highlighting both the challenges and resilience of this community.
At our gathering, we’ll hear from community organizations, such as the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition, as well as a representative from the BC Poverty Advisory Committee and Vancity. We will discuss the structural barriers to poverty reduction, policy work currently happening in BC, and ways to support poverty reduction beyond granting. We are working with our partners at the Community Action Network to identify grassroots organizations and initiatives in the Downtown Eastside that are addressing immediate and specific needs. For these organizations, a larger grant will make significant difference. We will showcase and recommend several organizations at the event. After an opportunity to discuss and ask questions, participants will decide which organization(s) to grant to.

Learn together, Give together is designed to build a network of donors and provides an opportunity for you to leverage your annual grant budget. It is our aim to have a minimum of 10 donors participate, and together with a $5000 contribution from Vancity Community Foundation, direct a collective gift of at least $20,000. To maximize participation while ensuring a significant pool is raised, the minimum contribution amount has been set at $1,500.
